Survivor's Day brings together first responders and survivors of cardiac arrest

MLPS Headquarters (October 9, 2026) – The life-saving impact of emergency medical care was on full display at Middlesex-London Paramedic Service Survivor’s Day on Thursday, October 8. The annual event recognizes cardiac arrest survivors and the network of first responders, healthcare professionals, families, and community members who helped make their recovery possible.

Throughout the event, survivors shared their experiences and reunited with the people who helped them during some of the most critical moments of their lives. The gathering is a reminder that behind every successful outcome, there is a network of people whose actions, decisions, and support make a difference.

Survivor’s Day is especially meaningful to paramedics and first responders whose work often occurs quietly and under difficult circumstances. They frequently move from one patient to the next without knowing the eventual outcome of those they have treated. The event provides the chance to reconnect and see the person beyond the clinical encounter.

“Every survivor has a different story, but together they remind us of what’s possible when people come together,” said Adam Bennett, Director of Paramedic Services. “Survivor’s Day give us a chance to see the real impact emergency medical care and why this work is so important—it saves lives.”

The event also highlighted the importance of early intervention during a cardiac emergency, including calling 9-1-1, performing CPR, and using an automated external defibrillator (AED) when available. Quick action by members of the public, combined with the expertise of emergency responders and healthcare professionals, helps strengthen the chain of survival in communities across the region.
